Fiji Elections: Fiji Police charge NFP leader Professor Biman

Fiji’s National Federation Party leader Professor Biman Prasad has been charged with two counts of indecently insulting or annoying a person.

In a brief statement this hour, Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho did not provide particulars of the complaint prompting the charge only saying that the NFP leader has been bailed for his first court appearance next month.

“After having received a complaint, a thorough investigation was conducted and finalised earlier this week,” Mr Qiliho said. “This morning Professor Prasad was brought into CID for questioning in the presence of his legal representative and chose to remain silent. He was subsequently charged. The evidence gathered in this matter is similar to a case involving a high-profile member of the community who was recently found guilty in a court of law.”

Professor Biman is due in court on 15 November 2022.
