Fiji Elections: FEO approves 102 candidates for 2022 polls

Of 293 provisional candidates’ applications received by the Fijian Elections Office, 102 have been approved to date to contest the country’s 2022 General Election.

This is after Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem approved 96 more candidates.

Of the 96 newly approved applications, 41 were for the Fiji Labour Party, 54 for the National Federation Party, and for independent candidate Ravinesh Reddy who filed his yesterday afternoon. The other six include five New Generation Party (NGP) candidates and one other independent candidate Rajendra Sharma.

The FLP and the NFP had fielded 44 and 55 applications respectively, with the former waiting on the FEO to decide on three others. The NFP on the other hand had one of their provisional candidates’ applications rejected “due to failure to meet with the requirements of the Electoral Act.”

As of 5pm yesterday, the FEO had received 293 applications – 55 each from NFP, FijiFirst and People’s Alliance, 53 from SODELPA, 54 from FLP, five for NGP, 14 for the All People’s Party, and two independent candidates.
