Voting in Fiji’s 2022 General Election has begun with the return of the first postal ballot in Suva today.
Confirming the news, Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said the submitted ‘marked’ ballot paper was one of two that was handed out yesterday with the first recipient being the Fijian Elections Office Director Operations Anaseini Senimoli.
The FEO has received and approved 3808 postal voting applications as at 3.30pm today. Ninety-one are still being processed.
To date, the FEO has packed and dispatched 450 postal ballot papers.
“We dispatched two yesterday and one has already voted. So the voting for the 2022 GE has commenced as the first postal vote has been returned. It’s a very important task, everybody should vote.”
Postal vote applications close at 5 pm Wednesday 23 November. Once approved and received their ballot papers via post, voters are advised to vote and must return their marked ballot papers no later than 6 pm on polling day 14 December, otherwise, they will not be considered when votes are being tallied.
