Fiji Elections 2022: Free transport restricted to polling venue immediate surroundings

The free public transport arrangement for polling day today is not for cross-country trips, but for each polling venue and immediate surroundings, Fiji’s Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says.

He was responding to queries from voters including a group reportedly enquiring from Navua, about 45 minutes away from Fiji’s capital city Suva, who was waiting on the main road for the free bus to take them across to Suva to vote.

“The free bus is for your own localities only,” Mr Saneem said.

“We will not be facilitating transportation of voters from Navua to Suva or from Nadi to Suva or Suva to Nadi, that’s not your own locality, that is the entire island.”

For clarification on the route of the free transport services, voters are encouraged to text their voter card number to 1500 which will generate a message informing them of not only their polling venue but also the contact details for the person overseeing the transportation in the vicinity of the venue.
