Fiji Elections 2022: Candidates assigned numbers for polls

The Fijian Elections Office carried out the ball draw this morning in Suva, two days earlier than scheduled, to assign the 343 approved candidates their three-digit numbers ahead of the country’s 2022 General Election next month.

Held at the Civic Centre in Suva and attended by representatives of political parties, MOG, and the diplomatic corp, the event was initially scheduled to take place Friday 18 December but was pushed forward after the Electoral Commission finalised its ruling on 10 appeals and two objections late last evening.

In their ruling, the EC dismissed the two objections and nine appeals, making allowances only for Unity Fiji candidate Mohammed Riyaz Khan’s appeal, bringing the party’s total candidate numbers to 39, and subsequently total candidate numbers to 343.

The first number that was assigned was 173 which was decided in a ball draw that was carried out in mid-July last year, and as such is also the first number on the ballot paper for the 2022 General Election.
