The Coral Coast 7s that ended today at Sigatoka’s Lawaqa Park has been a good training ground for the boys in the Fijian Babaas squad.
Fiji 7s Head Coach Ben Gollings said the boys fared well in the 2024 McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s Men’s Cup final against Saunaka, dominated from kick-off through the final whistle, winning 22-5 to take home the prize money of $20,000. The national side led 17-0 at half-time.
“The boys did really good despite the heavy rain against Saunaka. They picked up their game and did well,” he said.
The Cup final was the two team’s second meeting, having met in the pool rounds with the game ending in Saunaka’s favour, 14-7.
Gollings will later tonight name the team that will represent Fiji to the Perth 7s next weekend.
The women’s title and $15,000 was won by Matakesi team from New Zealand after they edged Mt Masada Fiji 24-19 in the Cup Final.
Dominion Brothers defeated the Fiji U20s 17-10 to claim the Youth title and $10,000 cash.
Saunaka’s Petero Ratumaitavuki and Milika Drugunavanua of Ezers finished as top try scorers in the men’s and women’s section with six and eight tries respectively.
