Fiji 7s Teams Face Major Challenge in Cape Town This Weekend

Fiji’s national men’s and women’s 7s rugby teams are gearing up for a demanding tournament this weekend at the HSBC SVNS Cape Town 7s, with both squads drawn into highly competitive pools.

The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team will navigate a power packed Pool A, featuring series heavyweights New Zealand, the reigning home champions South Africa, and Great Britain.

South Africa secured last year’s Cape Town title on their home turf with a 26-14 victory over France, while Fiji finished the tournament in third place.

On the women’s side, the Fijiana 7s team faces an equally challenging draw, sharing Pool A with fierce competitors New Zealand, USA, and Great Britain. Pool B for the women’s tournament includes Australia, Japan, Canada, and France.

A key format note for the tournament is the absence of quarterfinals and as in previous legs, only the top two teams from each pool will advance directly to the semifinals, making every pool match critical.

Elsewhere in the men’s competition, Australia has been placed in Pool B alongside France, Spain, and Argentina.
