National 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau says the side is ready for the McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s and has encouraged sevens players to keep giving their best at training to make the final selection for the Perth 7s at the end of the month.
Speaking to the media in Suva today, Kolinisau also encouraged former reps who were not currently in the squad, including those who were still vying for a place to keep giving their best as selectors were monitoring fitness and discipline amongst other things.
“Those who were not included in this squad will always have an opportunity to put their hands up again and this goes for those who have set their goals to be part of the team, nothing is impossible.”
“Be committed to your workout and training and keep the things of God your focus and you’ll never go wrong.”
Kolinisau says working alongside former England international Mike Friday, who also coached the USA 7s side for a number of years, is a learning experience for him.
“Mike is in Fiji for the Coral Coast tournament and is a renowned coach. He has asked me what I am looking for so I have also sought his advice. He has made his mark with his coaching role for the USA team so I find it a privilege to work alongside him.”
At the completion of the tournament on Saturday in Sigatoka, Kolinisau will name the Fiji 7s side to the Perth leg of the HSBC tournament which will be held on January 24 – 26th.
At the scrimmage sessions today, the side had a run with the Police 7s side and also with the BLK Lavidi team which included former national reps Ropate Rere and Akuila Momo.
