Marist Rugby club today confirmed dates for the 45th edition of their rugby 7s competition, featuring 72 teams from across the country.
Scheduled to take place at the ANZ Stadium in Suva, the tournament will run over three days, beginning 25 March.
The tournament will feature 48 men’s teams, eight women’s teams and 16 teams in the 18-21 age cohort.
Announcing their support of the tournament, Paradise Beverage Marketing Manager Joseph Rodan said they were pleased to partner with a tournament that has contributed to the growth of sevens rugby in the country.
“It has come a long way. We are proud as sponsors to have grown this tournament to be a world renowned tournament that it is now,” Rodan said.
“Fourty-five years ago we first sponsored this tournament and we are here again today. We’d like to thank Marist 7s club for the mileage they have given to Fiji Bitter 7s.”
Paradise Beverage General Manager Mike Spence echoed the same sentiments, crediting organisers for their commitment in sustaining the competition.
“We do value your partnership. We are looking forward to some great games” Spence said.
Marist Rugby Club President Lawrence Tikaram said the tournament has become a platform for growth and exposure for rural teams.
Interested teams are reminded that registrations close on 6 March.
Tournament prize are still to be confirmed. Last year, main competition winners Tabadamu bagged $15,000 while runners-up Police White received $5,000.
