The Fijian Drua were no match for a strong Crusaders outfit, losing 49-8 in their quarterfinal last night in Christchurch.
The defeat spelt the end of the Fijian Super Rugby Pacific franchise impressive campaign this season, including five of six home game wins among these their round three 1-point win over Crusaders in Lautoka, ensuring they make the playoffs in only their second year in the competition.
At Orangetheory Stadium last night, the hosts scored four tries in the first half, three of which in the first 15 minutes. The Drua managed to score a try through winger Selestino Ravutaumada, but the Crusaders maintained a strong lead of 28-8 at halftime.
They opened the second half with another try. Despite having to use their full bench early on and finish the match with 14 players due to an injury, the 11-time reigning champs extended their lead with two more tries from fullback Will Jordan and replacement halfback Willi Heinz.
The Crusaders progress to the semis to host the Blues. In the other semi-finals, the Chiefs host the Brumbies.
