COVID-19 Update: 20-39 age cohort make up largest number of cases

Majority of COVID-19 cases recorded in Fiji have been reported among people in the age group between 20 and 39 years, according to Ministry of Health data.

They account for more than 50% of positive COVID-19 cases in Fiji.

In their latest COVID-19 update, Ministry of Health stats showed that 28 out of the country’s 55 confirmed cases, since 19 March, were aged between 20 and 39 years.

People in the 50-59 age group accounted for the second highest number of positive cases at 22%.

While senior citizens, aged above 60 years make up the second lowest number of COVID-19 cases, behind youths up to 19 years of age, Fiji’s two COVID-19 deaths have been reported in this group. Both the deceased were males – two of 31 males who tested positive for coronavirus in the country.

As of yesterday, Fiji marked 282 days without any transmission in the community. Fiji confirmed its first case on 19 March, marking 312 days since. Fiji has recorded a total of 55 cases and two deaths. All cases reported from 19 March 2020 to 18 April 2020 were international travel-associated cases in the community. Cases between 6 July 2020 to date were international travel associated detected at border quarantine facilities.
