A 45-year-old unvaccinated woman became Fiji’s latest COVID-19 victim after she succumbed to the virus over the weekend, taking Fiji’s death toll from coronavirus to 865.
The woman who died last Saturday in the central division also had severe comorbidity (underlying illness), in a case that keeps with recent trends where severe disease and death have been seen only in those with severe comorbidities, and are either unvaccinated or have not received the booster dose.
The Ministry of Health says for people with severe comorbidities it is recommended that they have at least one booster dose if not both.
This is also underlined by an increase in hospital admissions – three – all in the western division.
Fiji also registered 60 new coronavirus cases since last Thursday, 21 of which were reported in the central division, 34 in the West, and five in the North.
