COVID-19 Fiji: 184 cases including 11 on Kadavu plus 10 new deaths

Eleven more cases have been reported from Kadavu, 133 from the western division and 40 cases from the central division for the 24-hour period that ended at 8am yesterday, during which 10 COVID-19 deaths were also announced.

The new cases on Kadavu brings to 175 total active cases on the island, 10,225 in the western division, 9058 in the central division and five in the northern division.

The number of cases in Fiji since the first case in 2020 has reached 46,211, of which 99.8% were recorded during the outbreak that started in April this year.

Deaths (26- 30 August)

Of the 10 deaths reported overnight, seven occurred in the western division and three in the central division.

Of the seven deaths in the West, five were unvaccinated and the other two, partially vaccinated. All of the central division deceased were not vaccinated.

There have now been 489 deaths due to COVID-19 in Fiji, with 487 of these deaths during the outbreak that started in April this year. As of 25 August, the national 7-day rolling average of COVID-19 deaths per day is 6. The 7 day rolling average for COVID-19 deaths per day in the Central Division is 2 and in the Western Division is 4.

There have been 10 other deaths of COVID-19 positive patients due to other causes, for a total of 307.

Hospitalisations

There are currently 244 COVID-19 patients admitted to the hospital. 113 patients are admitted at the Lautoka Hospital, 22 patients are admitted at the FEMAT field hospital, and 109 are admitted at CWM hospital, St Giles, and Makoi. Nineteen (19) patients are considered to be in severe condition, and 13 are in critical condition.
