Cotter to name Flying Fijians squad for All Blacks Test in June

Flying Fijians head coach Vern Cotter is expected to name his extended squad for the two away July Tests against the All Blacks next month.

In a statement, Cotter said he would consider both local and overseas players, but the final squad make-up for the matches would depend on players’ availability in view of quarantine protocols, travelling and preparation time.

The two matches are scheduled for July 10 and July 17 in Dunedin and Hamilton respectively.

“We have been looking at the overseas and also local players and trying to get them back in time for quarantine and training so that we can prepare properly for the first game on the 10th,” Cotter said.
“We have been liaising with everybody to make sure that our players know the time scale of travel, quarantine and training.”

Fiji Rugby’s High-Performance Unit General Manager Simon Raiwalui and the Flying Fijians coaching panel have been in discussions with players regarding the two matches. FRU will also be working with World Rugby and overseas players’ clubs about their release.

The July Tests will be the Flying Fijians first match-up against the All Blacks in 10 years.
