Commission pays out close to $300K for employment accident compensation

The wife of a man, who died on board a ship last year, and a man, who has not been able to return to work since 2019 after he was assaulted by a co-worker, were among recipients of a recent accident compensation payout amounting close to $300,000.

ACCF paid approximately $292,500, bringing to $3,076,500 the total paid out for employment-accident compensations to-date.

One of the beneficiaries, Vijay Kumar who was assaulted by a co-worker in January 2019 sustained serious injuries that reduced functional movement to the left side of his body and scars.

“Upon receiving his application and all relevant information, ACCF processed it in a timely manner and assessed his compensation in accordance with the Accident Compensation Act 2017 and Regulations. When receiving his compensation Mr Kumar thanked the ACCF team and said he was grateful for the compensation since he is not able to work anymore. He said he will use this money for further treatment and the wellbeing of his family, the commission said in a statement.

Also among beneficiaries of the recent payout was the wife of a man who died when he was struck by a steel wire during a tugging operation in mid-2020.

“After receiving her compensation, the deceased worker’s wife thanked the Commission for the assistance. Since the deceased was the sole breadwinner for his family, his wife said she will invest half of the money and the other half she will use to fulfill his wish, that is to renovate and extend his family home.”
