A medical team comprising of surgeons have conducted close to 60 eye procedures while at the CWM Hospital in Suva this week.
The team from the Bright Journey medical team of Guangdong province in China was last night accorded a special welcome by Government ministers, special guests and members of the Chinese community in Suva at the Chinese Embassy.
China’s Ambassador to Fiji Zhou Jian said the partnership which started a few years ago has proven fruitful and of great importance.
“Since 2013, Bright Journey medical teams have been visiting Fiji and other pacific island countries to conduct free surgeries for cataract patients. They have restored eyesight to over 200 patients and are known as the angel of light by pacific islanders.”
“Bright Journey medical teams brought brightness not only to the patients themselves, but also to their families. This time around, Professor Huang Wenyong and his team helped over 60 patients regain vision.”
Ambassador Jian said Guangdong has a special relationship with Fiji.
“Guangdong is one of the first Chinese provinces to cooperate with Fiji, and also one with the most outcomes in vast areas. More than 160 years ago, Cantonese people sailed to Fiji and integrated into the multi-ethnic Fijian society.”
