The dangerous and killing effects of what has been termed as bluetooth and chemsex will escalate if more awareness is made immediately.
Awareness not only from authorities but from and with every level of community beginning with family groups.
And Head of Family Health at the Ministry of Health Dr Rachel Pillay said that with the rise in the cases of HIV at 552 from January to June this year, awareness on how life threatening Bluetooth and Chemsex is of utmost importance.
Dr Pillay said people were not forthcoming about using these methods.
“We know that there is injectable drug use increase and we had 85 new cases just from injectable drug use and how many were through bluetoothing we’re not sure because that level of information the individual may not share with us.”
Bluetoothing means that addicts inject themselves with blood drawn from another user who is already high so that they, the second-hand users, too can get high while Chemsex is when people take drugs that enhance sex and make them feel uninhibited.
“It’s important to keep pushing out the information on awareness because if we’re not careful this will contribute more to the rise in HIV cases.”
