The Fiji Football Association is making strides to enhance the sport of soccer with the official launch of Bula FC, the country’s first professional football franchise that will compete in the inaugural OFC Professional League (OFCPL), set to kick off in January 2026.
The launch, held in Suva today, also included the announcement of the club’s leadership and coaching structure with Marc McElrath, Managing Director of McDonald’s Fiji, named as Chairman of Bula FC, and former Operations Manager for Fiji FA Anushil Kumar appointed acting Chief Executive.
To align with the national football program, new national men’s head coach Stéphane Auvray will also serve as Head Coach for Bula FC and will be supported by national assistant coach Marika Rodu.
Fiji FA President Rajesh Patel said the dual roles were both practical and financially viable, given the short duration of the OFCPL season.
“It works well to have the coach take both teams because the league season is not that long.”
Patel added that the Bula FC signals a new era of football for Fiji.
“This is a huge move for Fiji, and while there may be teething problems, we are confident that this will bring so much positivity into the game of football because the league will offer a vital pathway for local players to pursue professional careers.”
The club’s executive team also includes Fiji FA Vice-President Naziah Ali Krishna as acting Chief Commercial Officer and will operate as a separate entity from the Fiji FA, although the association remains the majority shareholder.
The club’s name and motto, “One Vanua, One Team,” reflect Fijian values of unity and hospitality and its crest features traditional symbols such as the ibe and magimagi, depicting strength and connection across Fiji’s provinces.
The franchise is expected to move into its new office next week. Pre-season training will begin in December, following the national team’s participation in the MSG Prime Minister’s Cup next month.
