A 16-year-old boy who sexually assaulted and raped his eight-year-old niece twice within a week at their home in Lautoka early last year has been handed a suspended prison sentence.
The boy identified as T.D in court documents is the young girl’s uncle.
The mother caught him in the act, the second time around, and reported him to police.
Lautoka High Court Judge Justice Chamath Morais handed T.D a 22-month sentence, suspended for five years.
Court documents showed he first committed the offences at 9 pm on 24 April 2020 when the eight-year-old girl was alone in one of the rooms. The second time, a week later when the girl was sent to one of the rooms by her mother to take out mattresses that were kept there to the living room.
