Australia defeated Samoa 21-7 to pick up the Los Angeles 7s bronze medal and the 2021/22 men’s HSBC World Rugby 7s Series title, their first since the first series tournament more than 20 years ago.
Heading into the final leg of the 2021/22 Series in Los Angeles this weekend, the Australians have only gone as far as a second-place finish, twice, since the series started in 1999-2000.
They finished second in 2018 after losing to South Africa in the Cup final and prior to that during the 2015/16 Series, finishing behind Fiji.
Against Samoa, the Australians scored two tries in the first half to command a 14-7 lead in the breather. They maintained their composure to put in another converted try in the second spell whilst beefing up their defense to keep the Samoans at bay.
It worked for the Australians who make their exit with a medal and were crowned the 2021/22 series champs.
