A team from Aitken Spence PLC, a Sri Lankan conglomerate, recently visited Fiji through its subsidiary, Elpitiya Plantations, to explore agricultural business opportunities.
Aitken Spence’s Board Director, Dr. Rohan Fernando, highlighted Fiji’s potential for commercial farming, focusing on crops like papaya, pineapples, dragon fruits, berries, and coffee among others
During their 4-day stay, the team made site inspections and discussions with entities like Nature’s Way Cooperative, Jack’s Mango Farm, Ranadi Plantation, and Bula Coffee, exploring possibilities in mango and strawberry cultivation, plantation agriculture, and coffee cultivation.
“The fruitful engagement with Aitken Spence aligns seamlessly with our vision for sustainable economic growth. We are excited about the potential benefits this partnership will bring to Fiji’s agricultural sector and the broader economy,” Investment Fiji Chief Executive Officer Kamal Chetty said.
The entourage’s visit, supported by Investment Fiji and various government bodies, involved meetings with local stakeholders, including government ministries, food processors, distributors, and farmers.
The company plans further visits for detailed analysis.
