Agreement to Strengthen Fiji-NZ Disaster Resilience

New Zealand’s Minister for Emergency Management Kieran McAnulty is scheduled to sign an agreement with Fiji’s Minister Sakiasi Ditoka in Suva today aimed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in building resilience to natural disasters.

During the event, McAnulty will present commemorative coins as a gesture of gratitude to Fiji for the assistance provided in the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle, which occurred in February of this year.

Fiji had sent a team of 33 members, including 25 RFMF (Republic of Fiji Military Forces) officers, five personnel from the National Disaster Management office, and three firefighters, to help with recovery efforts in New Zealand.

McAnulty who is visiting Fiji for the first time was welcomed in a traditional ceremony at the Grand Pacific Hotel last night.
