Mai TV secures State of Origin free to air rights

May 18, 2022

Mai TV is excited to announce that it has secured Live and Exclusive free-to-air rights for the 2022 State of Origin clashes between the Queensland Maroons and New South Wales Blues.

“We know the State of Origin rivalry has a massive following in Fiji and Fijian sports fans are heavily invested in either supporting Queensland or NSW so we are delighted to broadcast one of the greatest sporting spectacles in our region,” said Mai TV Director Stanley Simpson.

“Fijians will watch ‘Australian sport’s greatest rivalry’ for free on Mai TV, and the other great thing is that a number of in-form Fijian players are expected to feature.”

Last year Fijian Bati internationals Apisai Koroisau and Tariq Sims helped the NSW Blues to a 2-1 series win with resounding victories in the first and second games.

The State of Origin series is one of Australia’s premier sporting events, attracting huge television audiences and selling out the stadiums in which the games are played in. It is regularly described as being the pinnacle of rugby league, even in comparison with international competitions

The first game of the much-awaited series will be on Wednesday 8 June played in NSW. The second game in Perth will be played on 26 June. The final game will be played in Queensland on Wednesday 13 July.

Leading up to the highly anticipated first match on June 8th and in the 5 weeks between the first game and the final game there will be intense analysis, speculation and interest as the rivalry heat up.

Mai TV is thankful to rights holders Digicel Pacific for the great partnership which has enabled these broadcast opportunities with the station – from the Olympics coverage to Super Rugby Pacific and now the State of Origin series.

Broadcast coverage would not be possible without Mai TV’s sponsorship partners who continue to believe in the station’s growth.

“We are thankful to our sponsors who we will be announcing soon for their support and enabling Mai TV to deliver premier content to the people of Fiji via the Walesi digital platform Live and Free,” Simpson said.

Mai TV can be viewed on Channel 4 of the Walesi digital platform as well as on the Walesi mobile app.
