Fiji is reviewing its COVID-19 safe measures, particularly for overseas arrivals aged under 12, contemplating the option of requiring them to also undergo pre-departure testing before travelling to the country.
Since Fiji reopened its borders in December last year, only travellers to Fiji aged 12 years and above are required to undergo pre-departure testing, and must give a negative result before being allowed to travel.
However, in the latest update, Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong said they are considering extending the pre-departure test requirement to children under 12 having also noted the risk of transmission in the age group.
“Beyond this potential change, our border protection will be mediated by the fact that travellers are vaccinated, have a negative pre-departure test, and will be tested in-country with a rapid antigen test,” Dr Fong said.
“Currently, inbound travellers aged 12 years and above must produce proof of a pre-booked and pre-paid rapid antigen test, to be administered after 48 hours, but before 72 hours of arrival in Fiji.”
