Blacks Ferns and NZ Women top try-scorer Michaela Blade rated highly the level of competition saying they would not have been able to get the same quality of rugby back in New Zealand as they did in the Lautoka 7s Series competition.
The side proved the better side, beating Army in convincing fashion 36-0 in the Cup final at Churchill Park last night.
“It’s been an incredible tournament for us as we haven’t played any international tournament since the Olympics,” Blade said.
“To be able to get some international footy seven months later, it’s a bit different for us, but we are super grateful to Fiji Rugby for inviting us into this incredible tournament. The quality of the footy is amazing and we would not have been able to get this back in New Zealand.”
The match was the two side’s second meeting after their first matchup ended in a 5-0 win by the visitors.
Seahawks finished third after beating Lautoka 22-0, table standing leaders Police won the Plate final 14-5 over Wardens to extend their lead at the helm to 49 points, one ahead of Seahawks. Army remain fourth on the standings. Marist beat Savusavu 27-5 to win the Bowl final.
The men’s competition continues today with the main final scheduled for 5.10pm.
