Three people from the central division, all of whom were fully vaccinated died between 7 and 8 February at the CWM Hospital in Suva, according to Fiji’s Ministry of Health, bringing to 120 the number of people who have died from COVID-19 in the third wave.
Dead are two men aged 59 years and 64 years who died after being admitted for more than 20 days. The third deceased, a 55-year-old woman died within 11 days of being admitted.
Their deaths bring to 816 the number of people who have died in Fiji due to COVID since the country’s first case in March 2020, and during which 857 positive patients also died, five more since the last update, but whose deaths were attributed to pre-existing health conditions rather than coronavirus.
Meanwhile new coronavirus infections likewise the 7-day average test positivity rate have also decreased – from 75 new cases to 36 in 48 hours as of 8am yesterday. The average positivity rate dropped to 19.1 per cent from 22.8 per cent for the same period.
