A man in his twenties who had been in remand since late last year after throwing hot oil on his wife, causing burns to her lower back, after an argument stemming from his asking over her whereabouts during the day, has been released from prison.
In a recent sitting in a high court in Suva, the man was sentenced to one year imprisonment after he was convicted of one count of causing grievous harm, one count of damaging property and one count of common assault.
But because he had spent one year in remand custody, meant that he had served his sentence, paving the way for his release.
Court documents showed that the couple are in their twenties and have a child. The husband works while the victim is a stay home mum.
