September 3, 2021

A 54-year-old man was airlifted to Lautoka, diagnosed with severe COVID-19, in one of two latest cases reported from Solevu village on Malolo island.

This is also the first severe case from the island that required relocation to Lautoka Hospital where he is reportedly in a stable condition.

Total active cases on the island stand at 32, while there are at least 12 on Naviti after a case was reported from Kese village, the fifth village on the island where the infection has spread.

The lone active case in Kese is a 43-year-old woman. Initial investigations suggest links to the Somosomo cases.

Movement restrictions remain on the whole of Naviti and Malolo islands remain in place.

Meanwhile, a team has also been deployed to Gunu village for further assessment and testing.
