COVID19 Fiji: Death toll at 453 with most recorded in central divison

Nine more people, aged between 49 and 84 years have died of coronavirus in Fiji, taking the country’s death toll to 453, of which 96% were announced between 1 July and 24 August.

Twenty-five per cent of deaths announced since 1 July happened in the West, 74.7% in the central division and 0.2% in the eastern division.

There was a 35% increase in the number of deaths announced between 1 August and 24 August compared to the same period last month.

Since 1 August, the most number of deaths have occurred in the central division, including four of the nine deaths (details outlined below) reported last night.

There have been nine other deaths involving COVID-19 positive patients, but whose deaths have been attributed to serious medical conditions, as with 257 earlier deaths, reported during the outbreak.

Two hundred sixty-four (264) COVID-positive patients are currently admitted to the hospital, 111 of them at the Lautoka Hospital, 38 at the FEMAT field hospital, and 115 admitted across CWM Hospital, St Giles and Makoi. Of the 264 patients, 34 are either in severe or critical condition.
