In five of the 48 non-sexual serious crimes reported in June, the accused persons are in an intimate relationship with the victims, according to stats from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Three of the five incidents involved married couples and two in a de facto relationship, including a 49-year-old man who was charged with the attempted murder of his 27-year-old partner.
The case was discontinued after the victim could not be located.
In other incidents, a 28-year-old police officer was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm to his 28-year-old wife, a 40-year-old man was charged with the same after he allegedly assaulted his 43-year-old wife with an axe and a 58-year-old man was charged with intent to cause grievous harm after he allegedly hit his 54-year-old wife on the head with a metal rod. The other incident involving persons in defacto relationship, saw a 32-year-old man charged with the unlawful wounding of his 36-year-old partner.
The five were among 43 people charged with a total of 48 counts of separate incidents in June. The offences were murder (1), attempted murder (1), manslaughter arising from breach of duty (1), aggravated robbery (10), attempted aggravated robbery (1), aggravated burglary (8), burglary (1), theft (9), assault causing actual bodily harm (3), act with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (1), unlawful wounding (1), illegal burial (1), careless driving (2), driving without a licence (1), driving under the influence of alcohol (1), failure to report an accident (1), trespass (1), criminal intimidation (1) and breach of curfew orders (3).
Of the 43 accused persons, five were police officers and two were juveniles charged with aggravated robbery, burglary and theft of mobile phones, cash and cigarettes.
There was also one incident where a 42-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman were charged with manslaughter arising from breach of duty and illegal burial of their 7-year-old daughter who died of unknown conditions.
