Fiji recorded another 64 cases today and its fourth death during the current outbreak, but like the one immediately before it, has not been linked to COVID-19.
Whilst confirming that the new cases stem from existing clusters as with 77 of 83 announced yesterday, Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong said the lone fatality announced today, also at the CWM Hospital, involved a male patient, who tested positive while admitted and died yesterday.
However, his death was caused by serious medical illnesses for which he had been admitted to the hospital, Dr Fong said, which was also the reasoning provided for the cause of death of a 38-year-old woman two days ago at the same hospital. The woman’s positive status was announced on Friday 4 June and, a day later reportedly died.

Of the 83 announced yesterday, 77 were linked to existing clusters:

- New clusters relate to:
- the five cases in Naitasiri and one case in Tavua:
- 2 cases from Matasinasau Village (1 CWM discharged and 1 who had moved to Tavua Village)
- 1 case from Laselevu
- 1 case in the Savusavu settlement; and
- 1 case in Vuisiga Village, Vunidawa
- 1 case in a traveller to Tavua from Lautoka
- the five cases in Naitasiri and one case in Tavua:

Meanwhile, 20 patients have recovered, which means there are now 515 active cases in isolation. There have been 681 cases during the current outbreak that started in April 2021. A total of 751 cases have been recorded in Fiji since the first case was reported in March 2020. Fiji has had 30 recoveries and four deaths due to COVID-19.
