The Flying Fijians are scheduled to play Georgia in their final Autumn Nations Cup match this weekend, but their participation will depend on whether or not they will be allowed into Scotland.
The match doubling as the seventh/eighth place play-offs will take place at the Murrayfield Stadium in Scotland, which will require the team to travel from their France camp.
“We are just following protocols at the moment,” Fiji Rugby Union CEO John O’Connor told MaiTV. “The organisers are going ahead with preparations, but it will come down to whether we will be allowed to travel Thursday to Scotland.”
Follow-up COVID-19 tests for the team is planned, the outcome of which O’Connor said would not have any bearing on their participation, but on the return of local-based players and officials to Fiji. The Fijian Government mandates that all returning Fijian citizens must undergo a test before their departure and that they must carry with them printed test results.
Meanwhile, if the Flying Fijians do play, it will be their first appearance in the inaugural tournament after they forfeited all three of their pool matches due to coronavirus cases where up to 29 people including team management and players tested positive for the virus.
England will play France in the final, Ireland and Scotland will face each other in the third/fourth place play-off, and Wales take on Italy in the fifth/sixth place play-off.
