No matter who we are or where we come from, we are all proud daughters and sons of this nation. We are all children of Fiji. Those were the sentiments echoed by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama at the launch of the country’s official 50th independence anniversary song ‘Children of Fiji’ in Suva today.

Bainimarama said the song is timely and uplifting especially because of hardships and challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“No matter the challenge Fiji faces – whether it is cyclones or the coronavirus pandemic – we know Fijians are at our best when we stand united. Together, there is nothing we cannot overcome,” he said.

Produced by Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) and performed by Simi Rova, Phil Dakei, Billy T, Samuela Taukave, Ramneek Singh and Sevuloni Tikina, ‘Children in Fiji’ is sung in English, Fiji Hindi, iTaukei and Rotuman.

Fiji’s 50th-anniversary celebration this Saturday will be held at Albert Park where the Instruments of Independence was handed over by Queen Victoria’s great-great-great-grandson Prince Charles.
