Fiji’s Judicial Services Commission (JSC) has withdrawn its advertisement for a new Commissioner to lead the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).
In a notice published in today’s newspaper, dated 16 January 2026, the Commission advised the public to disregard the call for applications that had been issued less than a week ago.
The Commission stated the decision was made following “legal advice” and advised the public to disregard the vacancy call issued less than a week ago.
No further details were provided regarding the specific nature of the legal concerns, though the JSC noted it would make further public announcements if required.
The Commissioner holds wide-ranging constitutional powers, including the sole authority to appoint and discipline staff and manage the agency’s strategic budget.
The role has been held by Lavi Rokoika in an acting capacity since June last year, following the termination of Barbara Malimali. Malimali is currently challenging her dismissal in ongoing court proceedings.
