Local Government Minister Maciu Nalumisa today confirmed that municipal elections will take place next year.
The Minister confirmed this with the media following the launch of civic education material for the elections, reaffirming the Coalition Government’s commitment to the process.
“Local government elections are vital because it ensures that democracy is upheld and adhered to in Fiji at the municipal level.”
“We are showing the people that we want their voices are heard not only on the national level but on local government level too.”
Minister Nalumisa said with processes underway and civic education about to commence, elections should be held around September.
“With everything in place, we should have the municipal elections next year thus fulfilling a democratic process.”
Special administrators and municipal councils’ reps were present at the function in Suva today.
