PALM Scheme Secure, Australia Clarifies Amidst Concerns

The Australian High Commission in Fiji has reassured stakeholders that the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme is stable.

Addressing rumors, particularly on social media, the High Commission confirmed that the scheme is not in jeopardy stating such claims are baseless and originate from doctored social media posts.

In a statement shared via their social media platform, the High Commission said it was disappointing to see disinformation on the matter.

“Disappointed to see clear cases of disinformation circulating about the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme.”

“Despite what you might have seen on your social media, the Australian Prime Minister has made no recent statements about PALM, nor has Australia’s 9 News network reported on any supposed recent PALM statements made by the Prime Minister.”

The statement said the PALM scheme was a valuable part of the Australian economy.

“PALM workers make a critical economic contribution to Australia and enrich the culture of communities across the country.”

“Australia remains fully committed to PALM and the opportunities it creates for Fijians to take new work experience and skills home to their communities.”

Earlier on Saturday, a fake news item appeared, showing Australian PM Albanese speaking through a news site, claiming his Government would look into reconsidering the PALM scheme due to some criminal cases involving Fijian citizens.
