Fijians across the country can now watch the entire 2024-2025 HSBC SVNS Series on Mai TV, starting with the Cape Town 7s tournament that starts tomorrow, following an agreement announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Communications, Manoa Kamikamica.
In a press statement, Kamikamica stated that Digicel, the rights holder for the HSBC SVNS Series, has extended its partnership with Mai TV to show live coverage of all matches—from pool games to the finals. The matches will air simultaneously on Digicel’s platforms, including Sky Pacific and DTV.
This development comes just a week after Mai TV only aired Fiji’s games during the Dubai 7s, where the Fijian men’s team secured a historic victory—ending a 22-tournament title drought and securing their first Dubai crown since 2015.
“This agreement represents an important milestone in making rugby accessible to every Fijian household,” Kamikamica said. “Rugby is not just a sport; it is a unifying force in our nation and a source of immense pride. By bringing the SVNS Series to free-to-air television, these good corporate citizens have enabled that every Fijian, regardless of their circumstances, can cheer for our national teams and celebrate our shared love for the game.”
Kamikamica praised the collaborative efforts of Digicel, Sky Pacific, DTV, and Mai TV in bringing the arrangement to fruition.
“Their shared vision and commitment to Fiji’s rugby fans have paved the way for this historic announcement,” he said.
The Cape Town 7s tournament kicks off tomorrow with Fiji’s women’s team facing the USA at 7pm (Fiji Time), followed by the match-up against Great Britain at 10.16pm. The men’s team will play their opening match against Uruguay at 12:38am on Sunday, before taking on Great Britain at 4:19am.
As the teams gear up for the tournament, Kamikamica urged Fijians to rally behind their players.
“Let us show the world the strength of our Fijian spirit,” he said.
