Reassignment of PS, as Wise’s Japan Appointment Withdrawn

October 23, 2024

The Fijian Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced the reassignment of Permanent Secretary for Education Selina Kuruleca to the Ministry of Justice, effective October 28.

The announcement made by PSC Chairman Luke Rokovada is one of a series of high-level administrative changes including the withdrawal of Pita Wise’s recently announced appointment as Fiji’s head of mission in Japan.

Kuruleca, who took on the role of Permanent Secretary for Education in late July last year, will now assume her new position in the Justice Ministry from next Monday, with Ratu Meli Nacuva stepping in as Acting Permanent Secretary for Education. Nacuva will also continue in his current capacity as Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports, handling both portfolios simultaneously.

Rokovada thanked Kuruleca for her efforts in advancing educational equity and quality, citing her success in maintaining high standards across Fiji’s education sector.

“The Commission believes this new assignment will further leverage her skills and experience,” he said.

Wise, who resigned as Permanent Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister last month, was expected to take on a diplomatic role. However, the Public Service Commission has now confirmed that his appointment has been rescinded, with no reasons given for the withdrawal.

The PSC also confirmed that an announcement regarding the replacement for the outgoing Permanent Secretary for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and the Sugar Industry, Yogesh Karan, will be made soon.
