Man Who Raped Stepdaughter “To Educate Her” Jailed For 16+ Years

October 9, 2024

A man who raped his stepdaughter, and told the court that he was educating her on how to avoid getting pregnant, has been sentenced to more than 16 years imprisonment.

The man was convicted of raping the victim numerous times within a year, starting in 2017 when she was 13 years old.

Court documents showed that the man disputed the victim’s account stating that he only raped her once, and suggested to the court “that what he did to educate the complainant about getting pregnant is precisely what happened in .. primary school.”

Evidence submitted in court showed that he committed the offence whenever he was alone at home with the victim – including at a carpark while waiting for her mother while her siblings slept in the back seat

The incidents, in part, did not come to light until one of the victim’s siblings told their mother that the man had touched the victim inappropriately. He then sought forgiveness when confronted. The victim’s mother informed the court that she forgave the man, and her forgiveness was based on the belief that he only touched her. They decided then that he would not be left alone with the victim. However, the victim told the court that continued to make sexual advances towards her.

It was not until recently that the victim shared everything with her mother who then reported the matter to the Police.

The man was arrested last year and had been in remand for about two months.

He was sentenced to 16 years and 10 months in jail, of which he must serve 14 years and 10 months before he can be eligible for parole.
