Fiji Police have charged a man in his late 20s after he impersonated a senior school executive and convinced a woman to send him $190 via a mobile money app.

Police stated that the man from Namara settlement in Labasa contacted the victim via Viber, urgently requesting the money “for an emergency.” Trusting the source, the victim transferred the funds using the mobile app.

The scam came to light when the victim contacted the senior school executive, who denied ever making such a request. The police launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of the accused.
