Fiji’s Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) will begin a nationwide tour of schools from September 17 to October 4 to raise awareness of government scholarships for Year 12 and Year 13 students.
In a statement, the TSLS stated that the two-week campaign, approved by the Permanent Secretary for Education, Selina Kuruleca, will reach students in urban, rural, and maritime areas, with schools already notified of the visit dates.
The school visits are part of TSLS’s annual effort to inform potential scholarship recipients. In addition to this initiative, TSLS recently held workshops for principals, careers teachers, and student representatives. These sessions were opened by the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, at Swami Vivekananda College in Nadi on August 21. Further workshops took place at Tavua College, Saint Joseph Secondary School, and across Vanua Levu.
TSLS has urged students and teachers to attend, saying it will help them “obtain complete information on various schemes of Fiji Government scholarships to make informed decisions.” The sessions will also explain the “scholarship application and approval process.”
TSLS Chief Executive Officer Dr Hasmukh Lal encouraged those interested in scholarships to access the “2025 Scholarship Awareness Handbook” available on the TSLS website and social media.
He also announced that the first round of applications for the Micro Qualification/Competency-Based Training Scheme will open on September 17 and close on October 1. The scheme is part of a “Quick Fix Labour Solution” aimed at addressing shortages in industries such as construction, tourism, and automotive repair. The training will offer “150-160 notional hours” and is designed for unskilled youth and adults who are not currently employed.
Fiji National University, Marriott Academy, and the Ministry of Education – TVET are among the providers selected to deliver the training.
