PM Cautions Cabinet Ministers about ‘Kalavata’ attire for Events

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has called on his Cabinet ministers to be mindful of accepting and wearing kalavatas that they given at official functions they are invited to officiate at.

At the 2023 Sports Awards held on Saturday at the Vodafone Arena, Prime Minister Rabuka said that he hadn’t worn his to the event because he felt it was giving a wrong statement to people who are struggling to make ends meet in Fiji.

“This is the 6th kalavata I have received this week.” he said.

“During a recent trip to Tonga, I saw first hand the challenges faced by many, people are struggling with poverty and unable to afford even basic necessities. This exprience made me reflect on our choices and how they can better align with the realities our communities face.”

“It is crucial for us to show solidarity with those who are less fortunate. Opting for simplicity over extravagence sends a strong message that our focus is on addressing the needs of our people and fostering a more compassionate society.”
