World Rugby has reinstated the Fiji Rugby Union’s membership of the World Rugby Council with immediate effect.
In a letter to the FRU, World Rugby said Fiji’s reinstatement has come about after they met the specific requirements put in place by the world rugby governing body.
“The World Rugby Executive Board at its July 26, 2024 meeting noted a report from the Fiji Oversight Committee. The report confirmed that the Fiji Rugby Union had held a Special General Meeting and unanimously agreed to the adoption of a new constitution and governance structure for Fiji Rugby.”
“The Executive Board further noted that this structure complies with the relevant Fijian Legislation and meets the requirement of World Rugby.”
World Rugby has now asked for a nomination from Fiji to the World Rugby Council.
“Further to the decision of the Executive Board, the FRU are invited to nominate its Representative to the World Rugby Council. The nominated representative will be required to be vetted in accordance with the World Rugby Integrity Code in advance of taking their seat on Council.”
