The Chinese Embassy in Fiji hosted a special event recently to present Jiangsu Province to the Fijian public, as part of efforts to strengthen ties between the two countries as they approach the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship next year.

In his keynote address, Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Zhou Jian outlined the many strengths of Jiangsu Province, located on China’s eastern coastline. He described Jiangsu as a region blessed with fertile land, abundant resources, and a strategic location fuelling its rapid economic growth and technological advancements.

“Jiangsu is at the forefront of China’s modernisation, boasting significant achievements in areas like electric vehicles, solar products, and high-tech industries,” Zhou said.

He also highlighted Jiangsu’s rich cultural heritage, from the historical significance of its ancient cities to Suzhou’s classical gardens, and the province’s commitment to ecological conservation and sustainable development, noting efforts in water management that have led to the return of rare species to their natural habitats.

Zhou is also hopeful for increased collaboration between Jiangsu and Fiji, particularly in agriculture and technology, pointing to the ongoing China-Pacific Island Countries Agriculture Cooperation and Demonstration Centre project as a significant step forward.

Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister, Manoa Kamikamica, welcomed the Jiangsu delegation, expressing appreciation for the growing partnership, and praising Jiangsu’s economic and cultural achievements as a model for Fiji’s development goals.

“We look to Jiangsu’s success as we strive for progress and prosperity,” Kamikamica said stressing Fiji’s commitment to deepening ties with the province across various sectors, including trade, education, and tourism.

“This gathering not only celebrates our past achievements but also reinforces our commitment to future cooperation,” he said.
