Over 3000 people have been trained in tax compliance through the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) and this has been hailed as a success by Fiji Revenue and Customs Service CEO Udit Singh.
At the MSME Day in Suva last week, Singh said that from the 3000 trained in tax and customs processes, 75% of these people have complied and lodged their tax returns.
”MSMEs hold great potential to transform economies and promote equitable economic growth if given adequate support. While we recognise the immense contribution made by the MSMEs towards Fiji’s economic growth and development, it is also important for us to acknowledge the challenges faced by the micro, small and medium enterprises,” Mr. Singh said.
There are approximately 116,800 MSMEs registered with FRCS, out of which 22,800 are paying taxes amounting to more than $59 million annually.
FRCS and MSME, Director Taxation, Ms. Momina Beg work must continue in ensuring that MSME’s are well equipped for the service they provide.
“We are highly optimistic about the positive impact this program will have on the MSME community and are fully committed to its success,” Ms. Beg said.
At the event, various MSME’s were present to display their wares and offered the opportunity for those present to see home grown products which were also locally sourced.
