Fiji Police recently arrested ten people in various drug-related incidents, including two 15-year-old students found with substances believed to be methamphetamine and marijuana on school premises.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu said the incident prompted the involvement of officers from the Valelevu Police Station who have sent the substances for analysis to confirm their nature, while the students remain under investigation.
ACP Driu is also pleading with parents, urging them to continuously remind their children of the severe consequences of involvement in illegal activities.
“The involvement of young students in drug-related offences is particularly concerning,” said ACP Driu. “We need the community’s support to address this growing issue and protect our children from the dangers of drug abuse.”
In Kadavu, two men were apprehended at the Vunisea jetty following the discovery of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, along with smoking apparatuses. In the Eastern Division, a 22-year-old man was detained in Koronivia. Authorities found him in possession of several zip lock bags containing white crystals, believed to be methamphetamine, and cash suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.
The Western Division has also seen an increase in drug-related arrests. In Rakiraki, two men were discovered with dried leaves thought to be marijuana, continuing the pattern of drug seizures and arrests across the divisions.
In the Northern Division, the raid of three farms in Savusavu resulted in the seizure of nearly 1,000 plants suspected to be marijuana. A 20-year-old farmer was arrested during a raid in Naweni. In Taveuni, a 42-year-old man was taken into custody after authorities found dried plant materials presumed to be marijuana in his workshop and backyard.
