There will be an increase in the presence of Police personnel at all the zone finals of the Fiji Secondary Schools rugby competition around the country, beginning this weekend.

This is after an incident between two prominent schools in the Eastern Zone Rugby competition last Friday.

“An increase in Police presence will be there at the Dean’s final for the safety of everyone enjoying the games.” Assistant Commissioner of Police, Livai Driu said.

After a meeting yesterday between the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union, the Principals of the two schools and Education Minister Aseri Radrodro, no discipliary action will be taken against students who were involved in stoning of the bus yet there will added measures to ensure the incident doesn’t happen again.

“Organising of all games must prioritise the safety of our children prior, during and post sanctioned school events.”

“The FSSRU has assured the Minister of Education that visibility of supervisors at all times, schools will be informed of expected behaviour by their students and supporters, including safety measures, greater visibility of MOE District and Divisional Officers at all games venues and the FSSRU meeting with the games committee to address the issues at hand and ensure the smooth running of the remaining games of the Deans Competition.”

A Fijian traditional protocol will also take place between the two schools before the weekend.
