Swire Shipping Fijian Drua captain Tevita Ikanivere has apologised to fans for the team’s loss to the Hurricanes side 38-15 at the HFC Bank stadium in Suva.
“To see the crowd, to see how all seats were sold out and then to not win the game for our fans, for Fiji hurts,” Ikanivere said.
“I apologise on behalf of the team to everyone who came to support us, everyone who went out of their way to watch us whether it was here or on television.”
Ikanivere said that the boys gave their all but also lacked a lot in terms of defence and kicking.
“There was a point where we were 15 and they were 13 yet we still couldn’t score. That is not acceptable and we will go back to Nadi and work out what went wrong.”
Coach Mick Byrne said the result was disappointing.
“Very disappointing that we couldn’t win. We needed to win at least 4 home games and 2 away games to be able to progress so to get this result tonight is disappointing.
“But I know these boys. Come Monday they will be back at training giving their all and we will have a good look at what happened here tonight.”
The side faces the Pacific brothers Moana Pasifika at Churchill Park in Lautoka at 2.05 pm.
“This loss should be enough fuel to get our boys hungry for a win next week.”
