Police are working closely with the National Fire Authority to ascertain the cause of the fire that destroyed the iconic Defence Club in Suva this morning.
Police Spokesperson Wame Bautolu said as per protocol NFA was still doing their investigations and once everything was ready they would then release the findings.
The fire happened around eight o’clock this morning.
Located on the corner of Gordon Street Defence Club was built around 1915 and was primarily an exclusive gentleman’s club where colonialists and officers in the military at the time would converge for social gatherings in Suva. Almost 100 years old, It has since opened membership to locals and boasts two squash courts, snooker stations and historical artefacts depicting its early beginnings.
