$20K for 2024 Fiji Fringe Festival and Incubator Programme

December 12, 2023

Fiji’s Minister for Trade, Co-operatives and SMEs and Deputy Prime Minister, Manoa Kamikamica, this week announced a total funding commitment of $20,000 for the 2024 Fiji Fringe Festival and the business incubator programme for artists to be held post-festival.

He made the announcement whilst launching the online artist and ticket sales for the highly anticipated “Mamma Mia Festival” and “Fiji Fringe Festival,” scheduled for February and March next year under the Arts Season 2024 banner.

“The Fiji Fringe Festival serves as a platform that celebrates creative arts and the role it plays in championing the God-given talents of these artists, both local and international. As a government, we are happy to support such initiatives,” Kamikamica said.

Highlighting the success of the previous festival held late February-early March this year, which attracted 11,000 visitors and generated over $150,000 in an 8-day span, Kamikamica underscored the festival’s economic impact.

“The economic spinoffs were amazing, generating a turnover exceeding $150,000, with $80,000 directly benefiting participating artists and over $55,000 in sales from seven micro, small, and medium enterprises that sell food and beverages.”

The 2024 festival is slated to take place at the University of the South Pacific, and online ticket sales are being facilitated by the festival’s partner, TicketMax.
